What T-Cell Receptor Means in Everyday Medical Language
A T-cell receptor (often called TCR) is a protein found on the surface of T cells, which are a type of white blood cell important for the immune system. These receptors allow T cells to recognize and attach to specific proteins, called antigens, that are found on abnormal cells such as cancer cells, infected cells, or cells from other organisms. When a T cell’s receptor binds to an antigen, it helps the immune system identify and attack those harmful cells.
