These cells line the inside of the urinary system, including the bladder, ureters (tubes that carry urine from the kidneys to the bladder), the renal pelvis (the part of the kidney where urine collects), and the urethra. Urothelial cells are special because they can stretch and change shape without breaking, which helps the urinary tract expand and contract as needed.
