Heather Gabbert attended Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and graduated with her master's degree in dietetics in 1995. She had been a registered dietitian for 17 years at the time of the Amazon author writeup and had worked with cancer patients since 1998, beginning at Cancer Treatment Centers of America.

After moving from Chicago to Spokane, Washington in 2007, she worked as an RD for Cancer Care Northwest and a home health company. She is listed as a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, Washington State Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, Greater Spokane Dietetics Association, and AND dietetic practice groups including Oncology, Business Communications and Entrepreneurs, Dietitians in Integrative Medicine, and Sports, Cardio and Wellness Nutrition. The author note also states that she has authored a book, contributed writing and articles, and blogged for StepUpSpokane on nutrition and wellness.
