TGA warns black/red salves promoted for cancer are unapproved, unproven, corrosive, and can cause serious skin harm.
Black Salve / Bloodroot Escharotics
Corrosive topical salves, often containing bloodroot/sanguinarine and zinc chloride, promoted to burn or draw out skin cancers. Black salve, Cansema, bloodroot, and related escharotics are applied topically to destroy tissue. FDA and TGA warnings state these products are dangerous, unapproved, unproven for cancer, and can cause necrosis, disfigurement, infection, delayed diagnosis, and progression.
Cancer Research UK: black cohosh has no scientific evidence for treating or preventing cancer; used mainly for menopausal symptoms.
